Low Inventory Alerts
My Digital Experience team implemented real-time low inventory indicators throughout the booking flow, providing customers with transparent information about seat availability to support faster decision-making.
The Problem
Customers shopping for flights had no visibility into inventory levels, leading to:
- Abandoned bookings when desired flights sold out during shopping
- Frustration from price changes between selection and purchase
- Missed opportunities when customers delayed booking high-demand flights
- Support calls asking about remaining availability
Without availability context, customers couldn’t prioritize their selections appropriately.
The Solution
We added intelligent inventory indicators across the shopping experience:
Visual Indicators
- Color-coded alerts - Red indicators for low inventory situations
- Seat count messaging - “Only X seats left at this price” notifications
- Contextual placement - Alerts appear where customers make decisions
Smart Thresholds
- Dynamic thresholds based on flight capacity and demand patterns
- Different alert levels (low, very low, last seats)
- Time-sensitive messaging for imminent departures
Cross-Platform Rollout
- Desktop booking flow
- Mobile web experience
- Native iOS and Android apps
Results
The low inventory alerts drove meaningful improvements:
- Reduced cart abandonment on high-demand flights
- Faster booking decisions when inventory is constrained
- Increased transparency about availability
- Fewer complaints about sold-out flights during booking
Behavioral Impact
By providing transparent inventory information, we help customers:
- Prioritize correctly - Book limited inventory first
- Set expectations - Understand availability before selecting
- Act decisively - Make faster decisions when needed
- Reduce anxiety - Know what they’re working with
Customer Value
Inventory transparency is about trust. Rather than creating false urgency, we give customers real information to make informed decisions. When seats are truly limited, they deserve to know so they can act accordingly.
