Apple Pay on Mobile Web
My Digital Experience team expanded Apple Pay support to the mobile web platform, bringing the speed and convenience of digital wallet payments to customers browsing on Safari.
The Problem
Apple Pay was available in our native iOS app, but mobile web customers on Safari couldn’t access the same streamlined checkout experience:
- Manual card entry required for every mobile web purchase
- Higher cart abandonment due to checkout friction
- Inconsistent experience between app and web
- Security concerns from customers entering card details on mobile
The Solution
We integrated Apple Pay into the mobile web checkout flow:
Technical Implementation
- Safari browser detection and Apple Pay availability check
- Payment sheet integration with booking details
- Secure tokenization through Apple’s payment infrastructure
- Seamless fallback for non-supported browsers
User Experience
- Apple Pay button prominently displayed at checkout
- One-touch authentication via Face ID or Touch ID
- Pre-populated shipping and billing information
- Instant confirmation without manual entry
Results
The mobile web Apple Pay integration delivered immediate impact:
- 5% of mobile web sales processed through Apple Pay shortly after launch
- Reduced checkout time from minutes to seconds
- Lower cart abandonment at payment step
- Increased customer satisfaction with checkout experience
Security Benefits
Apple Pay provides enhanced security for customers:
- Card numbers never stored or shared with merchants
- Dynamic security codes for each transaction
- Biometric authentication required for payment
- No card details visible during checkout
